The aim of the Xanana Vocational Education Trust is to help create a self sustaining vocational education system for Timor-Leste which meets the needs of the people. The Trust aims to help East Timorese people create a future for their new nation by generating economic activity through basic vocational training.

Trust VET Group Member withdraws...for a top reason


Kaye Schofield has withdrawn from the Trust's VET Development Group.
Kaye has been appointed to prepare recommendations to be presented to both Prime Ministers about how Australia might most effectively help Timor-Leste in the area of skill development .

Steve Bracks helps Xanana


Former Premier of Victoria Hon.Steve Bracks has provided invaluable support to Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao. What is not known well is that Steve's work is a Xanana Trust program - Project 008!

Whilst Steve himself is volunteering his time, support for him is provided by the Trust as a result of a generous specific purpose donation to the Trust by Harold Mitchell who is an Honorary Governor of the Trust.

The Trust's newly appointed Country Manager is Helder Encarnacao, a native born Timorese with an international education and view, Helder is the new face of the Xanana Trust in Timor-Leste. He has great experience in TVET in Timor-Leste since 2000...

Wine...and more. A fun day out.



A visit to Rose Creek Estate on Sunday 26th August delighted all who attended.
The winery was open for tastings and sales as part of the Sunbury “Sip-n-Sup” 2007 Wine Festival. Rose Creek Estate is located at 2 Craig St. East Keilor.


  • Trust volunteers had a faulous day.
  • Hundreds of visitors leant about the Trust's work.
  • And the Trust benefitted from a raffle held on the day.

Fundraising Function in Sydney a Major Success



The Rotary Club of Sydney Cove's MGSM Business Breakfast on the theme "Leadership as an Opportunity" on 7 June 2007 was an outstanding success.
The event raised $20,000 for the Trust. A brilliant job from the Rotary Club of Sydney Cove.

Australia Day Honours 2007



The Honourable Justice Frank Vincent AO, an Honorary Governor of the Trust, was recognised in the Australia Day Honours List 2007.

Neil Black PSM, one of the Trust's Vocational Education & Training (VET) Development Group members, was also honoured in the Australia Day 2007 list.

The Trust heartily congratulates Justice Vincent and Neil Black for their well earned awards.

The Trust's programs are designed to help the whole vocational sector in East Timor to grow into a self sustaining system.

Trust income is applied to programs of support in one of the following four areas:
  • Vocational Assistance Training Grants
  • Industry Wide Training Development
  • Business Skill Enhancement
  • Institutional Development Inititaties

Sponsor a Student donations, being special purpose donations to assist students, are the principal source of funds for whole-of-course fee-replacement programs under the Vocational Training Assistance Grants category.

VET Development donations are the principal source of funds for all other categories.
